Virtual Private Networks

There are 3 main types of VPN:

Secure Socket Layer: SSL-VPN

Uses encryption to authenticate users and send information.

IPsec: IPSec-VPN

Encrypts IP packets like SSL but can also encrypt UDP which provides more security.

Point-to-point Protocol (PTPP)

Microsoft's VPN protocol, not considered as secure as some others.

An SSL VPN is probably the easiest way and most common method of providing secure access for mobile users and has proved particularly popular, where IPSec VPN's are good for securely connecting two sites.
