Qlik Improves Productivity and Service for Blackpool Transport

03 Oct 2016

When Blackpool Transport realised they could benefit from more easily accessible information, they chose Qlik from Castle - a business intelligence solution that could provide quick and accurate information in an easy to use format.

Blackpool Transport is owned by Blackpool Borough Council and was originally founded in 1885. It operates buses and trams within the boroughs of Blackpool and Fyde and surrounding areas. The company operates a fleet of around 140 buses and 16 modern Flexity 2 trams, 9 modernised Balloon trams as well as a variety of heritage trams.

Phil Lonsdale, Business Systems Manager at Blackpool Transport said:
“Until we introduced Qlik our management team could wait 3 to 4 days for information so we really needed more immediate reporting across the business.

“Castle provided a demo of Qlik for our directors and its speed and ease of use were immediate stand out benefits. We were also impressed by Qlik’s ability to join disparate systems together and produce up to the minute information.

“The system makes sure that the appropriate decision maker can get the information they need directly and it presents an up to date story board of what is happening in the business. It is available whenever and wherever managers need it, whether on their Citrix environment, desktop or mobile devices.

“With 97 million records, our biggest system is revenue analysis and Qlik will draw revenue and cost data from several different systems to give us one single version of the truth. Our budgeting can be affected by many different issues such as seasonality, weather, school holidays and Qlik lets us instantly factor these in, allowing our team to make informed decisions quickly.
