Ayrshire College moves forward with QlikView

Case Study: Qlik

Ayrshire College aims to serve the people, communities and employers in Ayrshire. It plays a key role in helping to develop the local economy by ensuring that students develop the right skills and positive attitudes to support the local, regional and workforce needs.

The College operates across 8 campuses, with 800 staff and over 14,000 students, working in partnership with employers and stakeholders to focus on providing opportunities which meet demand in key industry sectors in Ayrshire and beyond.

The merger of Ayr College, Kilmarnock College and James Watt College to create the new Ayrshire College in 2013 resulted in a major programme to merge systems and data.

Castle had originally implemented QlikView at Kilmarnock College and it is now being rolled out across systems at the new College to deliver powerful data analysis.

Richard Simson, Performance and Planning Manager at Ayrshire College, said:

“The last year has been very busy with the merging of systems and structures but QlikView has continued to be an invaluable tool to analyse and track demographic data that is crucial to the day to day operations of the College.

“QlikView allows us to monitor the profile of students and their progress and quickly identify anyone that may be at risk of dropping out, so that we can provide the necessary support when it’s needed.

“We have extended the access of QlikView to a much wider group of managers, which lets them see the information they need in an easy to interpret format and make timely decisions. It allows them to easily visualise complex information at the click of a button.

“We are now working to pull in information from a wider range of databases and use QlikView in the virtual learning environment, which will contribute to the success of students using that platform.

“QlikView’s ability to present data in a simple visual format allows the user to identify trends quickly so that the appropriate action can be taken.

“We have continued to work closely with Castle as we develop QlikView ourselves and they have provided invaluable advice and support whenever required.”
