Qlik brings peace of mind for Coastal
Case Study: Qlik
Coastal Housing Group is a not-for-profit industrial and provident society, existing only for the benefit of the community, operating in Swansea, Neath Port Talbot and Carmarthenshire.
Formed in 2008 by the merger between Swansea and Dewi Sant housing associations, Coastal aims to regenerate older stock and build new houses to improve the community by providing good quality affordable homes.
Coastal owns 5,000 properties for rent and sale and is expert at supporting older people and those who require adapted homes, as well as people who need help managing their tenancy.
Coastal is a Lean Systems Thinking organisation that uses the Vanguard model and the driver of this project was that they were looking for a flexible business information system that could cope with the specific requirements of capability charts to measure variation in data, as well as more traditional reporting.
Shane Griffiths, Head of IT at Coastal Housing Group, said:
“Reports were being created on an ad-hoc basis from individual datasets which were largely inaccessible by those outside the department and relied on people using a lot of detailed knowledge and manipulation.
“Qlik and Castle were recommended to us by another housing association and so we invited Castle to show us a tailored ‘Seeing is Believing’ demonstration. Within three hours Castle was able to link Qlik to our live dataset, create a capability chart and pull out three other pieces of information requested by our management team that morning. It was such a convincing example of Qlik’s capability that the order was placed the same day.
“We use Qlik across the business. As well as providing KPI reporting to the Board, we report on rent arrears trends, Universal Credit account details and property and tenant information is also now available to all staff in the organisation. We are currently developing a specific Measures document which is being developed in response to current lean interventions. As Qlik is so flexible, we are able to make amendments during the intervention to help inform the projects and experiments in real time, which ensures that our reporting is relevant to the business.
“Qlik allows us to make relevant decisions based on up to date information, whether in a live business environment or a project/experimental situation. It gives the organisation peace of mind that managers and the management team are making joint decisions and reporting on the same set of validated data, yet that data can be sliced or displayed to meet individual needs.”
