Scotwest Credit Union benefits from move to the cloud

Case Study: IT & Cloud Services

Scotwest Credit Union provides a range of financial services to anyone who lives or works in the West of Scotland.

The credit union is a mutual organisation where the customers (members) are also the owners and therefore benefit from the ongoing success of the organisation.

Providing services to its members is the number one priority for the business and it operates a range of products extending to include savings accounts, personal loans and mortgages.

Scotwest identified a need to replace its existing server architecture and asked Castle to undertake a review and comparison between upgrading existing hardware or moving to a privately hosted cloud-based environment.

Rod Ashley, Chief Executive, Scotwest Credit Union, said:

“It was the ideal time to look at all of our options and weigh up the benefits for the organisation.  We chose to move our server architecture to a private cloud because there were a number of clear advantages for us. Since making the change we are enjoying some real benefits as a result.

“Whereas previously staff were using different versions of software applications, now everyone is on the same version and upgrades are included in the service to ensure that our office applications are consistently up-to-date across the organisation.

“We now have the peace of mind that systems are backed up automatically and replicated to another Data Centre every day, delivering strong business continuity. As a financial services organisation we operate in a business environment that is closely regulated by the FSA and requires extremely high standards of governance, so it is imperative that our systems are completely reliable and can be quickly accessible in an emergency.

“One of the real benefits for improved productivity and ease of use is that staff can access the system remotely and are able to quickly access their own personal desktop in a very user friendly and secure way.

“We chose Castle because having worked with them for some years we had confidence in their reliability and flexibility and that they would work with our team and ensure that the project was delivered without hassle. It was a choice based on quality of service and the unique innovative value they deliver.”
